Delhi’s Summer Canvas

Summer in Delhi – a watercolor-style artwork generated by CoPilot Dall-E using the poem as a prompt

Delhi’s Summer Canvas

Thousands of colors
Come together in the summer
Fire of the crimson Semul
Prelude to warming days
Gently passing on the baton
Gulmohar blooms, bold ablaze
Jacaranda sparks in violet hues
Shyly the pink Jarul woos
Yellow Amaltas in regal grace
Shehtoot and Faalsa, sticky-sweet
In a berry-laden rivalry
With the Jamun do compete
So much bounty, much to praise
Succor to the eyes, a bit of shade
Heralding the dust-laden heat
For only under the burning sun
Such a palette can be unfurled

Transitions

For @TopTweetTuesday, a poem on the power of transitions, inspired by the bright #Gulmohar trees that are now competing with the hot summer sun in India.

Wrapped in muslin
Gentle dreams lie so still
Spreading over eyelids
Like a subtle touch of lace
Vast longings, latent until
Caressed by time and destiny
Fresh buds unfold in glory
Of spring in bloom, and
All hopes glow crimson
As petals of the Gulmohar
Ablaze in the glare of summer!

Autumn-in-Waiting

It was a rainy day when I heard
Tears of a fairy in the rustling leaves
Glistening droplets sliding gently
From flamboyant Gulmohar petals
Taking the fire and fury of summer
Into the arms of autumn-in-waiting

Gulmohar

Gulmohar trees swaying
In the summer heat
Tawny branches bursting
With fiery flowers,
Crimson petals carpeting
The gray gravel road
Gleefully picked up
For sword fights
With tender stamens;
The tiny tip breaking free
In innocent games
Losers none, all winners be!
Green sepals become
Fake nails in child’s play
It is all beautiful, speckled
Like colors of tomorrow!
A burst of tanginess
Tingling the soul,
Children head home
Chewing sepals, petals;
Just a flower, so much to give
Until it melts – orange, blue
All comes to rest, in dusky hue!
