Neon

#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo Day 14

Book cover for Friedrich Christian Accum. A Treatise on Adulteration of Food and Culinary Poisons.

I have missed you before
In tangled thoughts
Jumbled recollections;
In a corner concealed
I found that one evening
We spent together

Hidden in a bulky album
Between pearl paper
Tender as papyrus
Gossamer stories
Motley of words, photos
Almost glowing neon

Just as they appeared
They soon disappeared
Blown far into the distance
In a fading Autumn breeze
Fragile yellow petals
Of wrinkled memories

To the end

#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo Day 13

Book cover for C. Lockhart-Gordon. To the End.

Old bones hold memories
Crumbling in the dust
Ivory turns to decay when
The lark has flown away
Dispersing the melody
Once resonating in the nest
Now empty, dusty, creaky
Recollections lie scattered
Broken, sunburnt, and weary

A wait prolonged

#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo Day 11

Book cover for W. T. Horton. A Book of Images.

Lightning spears through the clouds
They bleed in crystal drops
Thundering cries rip the firmament
Fearsome storms rage around
When all is spent, the skies reveal
The splendor of a luminous moon

Wild oceans furiously lash around
In a melancholy rhythm
Laments of a wait prolonged
Rip through the crystal sands
Until the waves catch a glimpse
Of their rain-washed beloved

Voices

#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo Day 9

Book cover for Andrew Lang. The Book of Dreams and Ghosts.

Cold breath in the shadows
Raspy voices in the distance
A disconcerting huff
Changing to laughter
Cold as the night
From beyond the graves
Rises a specter of noises
Are they real, or only I hear
Whispers that bruise
My soul and tear apart
My frightened heart!
I shudder and wonder
Is it really all in my mind?

Addiction

#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo Day 6

Book cover of The Magic of Science

Under the twilight sky
I spread my wings,
Beyond the haze of restrain
My mind melts like
Floating ice on sherbet
Under a pink moon
In a summer glaze
A resolve that breaks
A resilience that fails
Poison on the rocks
Trickles into nooks
Submerging my soul
In a golden liquid
Trying to soothe
With shallow intoxication
My drenched heart
That bleeds crimson!

Poetry inspired by the book cover of The Magic of Science: A Book of Amusements by A. Frederick Collins, New York: Fleming H. Revell, 1917.
