24

book cover for Henry. E. Roscoe. Spectrum Analysis.

Squeaky unoiled hinges
Of swings in the park
Sweaty breeze on the face
Games in an idyllic noon
A clang of metallic toy ponies
Multi-hued flying frisbees
Muddy barefoot squeals
Merry-go-round treble
Run and hide, hide and seek
Playing till night descends
Yes, freedom of innocence
Long lost, yet dearly craved!

Digital Overdrive

#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo Day 22

Book cover for George Eliot. Scenes of Clerical Life.

I am hurrying through life
No chance to stop and wait
To see moments unfurl
Relaxed, laid back, paced
For there is always
A new series to binge watch
Book review before the launch
Stories, poetry, Insta delight
Twitter wars, WhatsApp fight
Live Now on Facebook groups
Clubhouse, Discord, Spaces, too
Arts, crafts, podcasts, videos
Content overload, daily dose
Clutter, noise, brimming chaos
AI threatening to do our jobs
Pushing, pulling, stretching void
Competing with digital droids
An unreal life on a rushed clock
Clicking until time will stop!

Poetry inspired by the book cover for George Eliot. Scenes of Clerical Life. William Blackwood‎ & Sons, 1857 — Source.

Starry Visions

#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo Day 22

Book cover for Lord Dunsany. The Book of Wonder.

I sieved the stars
Through my fingers
They fell on the ground
Now, sparkling dust!

The mist from my eyes
Mingled in the glass
The shimmer flowed
Into oceans and seas

Luminescence washed
Along a silver beach,
I picked up the shards
Of the broken stars.

One with the sand
By the shores, I stood
Crystal dreams in my hand
Clutched to my bosom.

Roaring skies demanded
The glitter be returned
For they carried visions,
Of a thousand Earths!

Fantasies

#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo Day 20

Book cover for Richard Bowdler Sharpe. Sketch-Book of British Birds.

What are fantasies?
Illusions with wings;
Birds uncaged
Floating free
Over dreamscapes
Hovering still where
Nightmares dwell
A magical world
With a wish
And a spell
In our minds we create
A wonderland, or
A raging hell!

Poetry inspired by the book cover for Richard Bowdler Sharpe. Sketch-Book of British Birds. London: Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge,1898 — Source.

Screams

#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo Day 19

Book cover for Edward J. Goodman. Too Curious.
Book cover for Edward J. Goodman. Too Curious.

In the labyrinths of silence
I explore inner darkness
In awe, I see the lines rusted
Of rotting pain
Etched on my heart
By recollections deep
Digging in like ridged shards
Most painful are moments
I try to, but I can’t recall
They lie in the gloomy corners
Smothered by macabre screams
The ones I had muffled
For I knew no one cared
